Tram Trains for Edinburgh (TTfE) puts forward ideas for the City Plan 2040

TTfE has submitted ideas to the City Council relating to the development of a mass transit system for Edinburgh, both concerning reopening the South Sub and for possible extensions away from our core route.

We know that public transport infrastructure takes time to develop and build, and therefore it's absolutely crucial that critical sites for these services are protected from developments that might block a useful transport artery. We know our plans are practical now, but we have proposed to protect relevant sites across Edinburgh for the future, in case something possibly quite small adds to the cost or practicality of building future transport links.

We have proposed that the Council protects sites from development, for the following three categories:

  • Station sites along the South Sub itself, and their access to neighbouring roads
  • Development sites that could be linked to the South Sub, such as at Fort Kinnaird, Cameron Toll and Portobello railway land
  • Old railway trackbeds that form linear routes for tram extensions from Portobello to Leith and Leith Walk, and Niddrie to Newcraighall and Musselburgh

However we note that the Council has now extended the consultation period to 21st October so you too can write in to support protecting these sites — contact us if you need help with suggested text!
